| How to Become a First Circle Member without taking a 101 class |

| Not everyone who wants to join Star and Spiral is new to Wiccan practice. You may have taken correspondence courses somewhere else or studied with another tradition OR you may be a well-read long time solitary practitioner. UEW respects your previous education. If you have been a practicing Wiccan for at least three years and believe that you don't need a course on the basics of Wicca you may grandfather into membership in the First Circle. First, you must attend at least three gatherings of Star and Spiral coven and declare your desire to dedicate to the coven. If your dedication is accepted you then have eight months to read All One Wicca by Kaatryn MacMorgan and complete Section Five Parts One and Two of the AUEWC examination, located at the bottom of that page. You must cite the source for every answer to every question. Your answers may be type-written and emailed to Jenny or presented in person. If you pass the exam the status of Member of the First Circle will be conferred through Star and Spiral and will be accepted by any UEW organization. Can I grandfather into the Second Circle? This is done rarely and on a case-by-case basis. You would need to be able to show me a significant body of work that you believe has prepared you for Wiccan ministry and that covers significantly more in-depth material than the First Circle. You would also be required to complete the AUEWC standars exam through the Second Circle material. I also require at least two written and verifiable references. 2. I'm ordained. Does UEW recognize outside ordination? It's unlikely that we recognize your ordination. Just as a minister of one Christian faith would have to be ordained by a new church if changing affiliation, UEW only recognizes UEW ordinations within UEW. That is to say that you receive no special consideration or standing because of a previous ordination, especially if your ordination was through a degree mill or free internet site. UEW ordination requires years of dedication, education, and actual work to achieve and is not the natural conclusion of becoming a UEWiccan. You may read more about UEW ordination here. 3. I don't want to study but I want to be a full member. Sorry, this isn't possible. 4. Do Outer Court members get initiated? No. 5. Do Outer Court Members get any say in the way the coven is run or what we do? Yes and No. If you've been an Outer Court member for over one year you will earn 1/2 vote in most matters of coven governance. Outer Court members can have a voice, but the UEW system in general favors people who have made the effort to become knowledgeable in their faith. |
